SCI Pathfinder Award Winner – 2022

Posted on Dec 14, 2022

Safari Club International has selected it’s Pathfinder Award winner for 2022 and it’s my friend Dustin Berg from New Mexico. The Pathfinder is quite an accomplishment in the able outdoor world and Dustin has been working behind the scenes for a lot of years in order to help lead people back into the great outdoors. Great job amigo! You deserve the recognition.

Dustin grew up an avid hunter & fisherman in the beautiful state of New Mexico before his injury happened. He’s hunted all the big game animals but elk has been his main passion ever since his first time chasing after them in the mountains, and he’s become a skillful caller as well.

Presently, he heads up the GO Unlimited Organization, and here’s a little bit of a written documentary about the trail Dustin has been on…

Dustin is the founder and Executive Director of GO Unlimited, a non-profit providing adaptive hunting, fishing and therapeutic recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.

The organization has since moved into the area of adapted recreation like mountain biking, hand cycling, etc. To date, Dustin has taken many veterans, children, and adults with disabilities hunting for elk, deer, antelope and oryx in New Mexico, including people from other states who have drawn tags and need help on their hunt, and they still take time to do the kid fishing events. GO Unlimited recently began a fly fishing program that utilizes a wheelchair accessible drift boat to enable able-anglers to enjoy the world famous San Juan River and acquired an accessible shuttle bus to get people to and from these outings.

In 2015, Dustin ran a Paralympic shooting club as part of a grant through the VA system which lasted two years.

Dustin is also a volunteer Board Member for New Mexico EndeavOR, a non-profit organization focused on building the outdoor economy in New Mexico. EndeavOR works to help outdoor recreation businesses in NM and Dustin’s job is to make sure the disabled community is included in all of them. More recently, he has increased his media presence by doing TV interviews, online interviews, online & print articles, and YouTube Channel videos in order to spread the word about GO Unlimited and outdoor inclusion for all.

In 2021, Dustin wrote grants and fundraised in order to purchase 9 adaptive Off-Road cycles (all electric) for the disabled public. He is intent on adding another this year, and they are already changing the lives of able outdoorsmen and women and changing the way they are able to trek into the mountains. For Dustin, it’s simply about helping people be able to reach those hard-to-get-to places.

Congratulations buddy!
