It’s with great pride that I get to tell everyone about one of our own, Justin Gordy, being selected for the Jan Oelofse Legacy Award for 2024, (https://www.janoelofsesafaris.com) which is the most prestigious award anyone can receive in the able outdoor world today.
First of all, with the Safari Club deciding to end their Pathfinder Award program, the Oelofse’s stepped up in order to continue giving out this honor for able sportsmen & women who have selflessly given of themselves and their time to help others get back into the outdoors. (The Oelofse’s also provide an all-accessible safari in Namibia.) Well Justin is exactly this kinda guy.
I first met Justin at TIRR Memorial Hermann as a TIRR peer right after his injury and right away I knew that he was going to be ok. He had the same passion for hunting & fishing as I did, he had a devoted wife, and he was motivated to get back to doing what he loved no matter what the obstacles were.
Fast forward 13 years and Justin is now a member of that very same TIRR Peer program and who also recently had his picture put on the wall-of-fame at TIRR hospital for new patients to see.
“Winning the Lecacy Award means a whole whole lot to me. It’s a very special honor to be recognized in this way by such a generous family. The Olefse’s have created this award… and in the grand scheme of things I don’t think I really do all that much for people, but the truth is a little generosity can go a long way. Look at the legacy that this family has created and it’s been going on for years now. I’m honored to be a part of it.
This is a life changing moment to be recognized and appreciated in this way by total strangers that live halfway across the globe!
I’ve never seen such a wonderful opportunity like this for disabled sportsmen.” – Justin G.
As a Legacy Award recipient, Justin will be recognized at the Dallas safari Club convention in Dallas, Tx., in January of 2024, and he will also get to go on a dream 10-day safari with the Oelofses in Namibia later that year.
Congratulations buddy!
